Resume differences

The resume is THE central element of your application. The most important rule for the CV is: Always adapt it individually for each application situation and each target group! That makes more work, yes. But it's worth the effort. Experienced HR professionals can tell at first glance whether it is an individual résumé or a mass-produced item. They sort out the latter immediately.

Your professional resume is always a first work sample. From the care and individuality, HR professionals read the real interest in the job as well as your commitment and motivation. Therefore, here are a few tips for special applicant situations.

Curriculum vitae for students and internship
Students do not yet have any work experience or relevant qualifications. The curriculum vitae for students is correspondingly short. It often fits on half a page to a full A4 page.

If you are applying for a student internship in grades 9 or 10 , you should start with your previous school career in the student resume. Be sure to be detailed: Mention courses, favorite subjects, grades and extracurricular involvement (projects, interests, hobbies). For students, social skills and activities also count more than qualifications. Anyone who is involved as a class representative or member of a working group should write this on their résumé. Likewise, special language skills or IT skills .

Many students give too few details in their CV. Use professional resume services to make your CV looked attractive. So the student resume remains too superficial and too short. Describe project work or knowledge, interests and hobbies in a little more detail. This is especially true for previous vacation jobs and student jobs . A few more keywords help to increase the chances of a job interview.

CV for apprenticeship or study
School leavers who apply for an apprenticeship or a course of study score above all with social skills, their own projects and honorary positions in clubs or organizations on their résumé. Likewise with internships. However, these should match the planned vocational training or course of study.

In the full resume (edit my cv online), state all relevant stations and jobs as well as your favorite subjects or advanced courses (with grades!). However, only mention average or final grades if they reinforce the overall positive overall picture of your application. Of course, you only mention bad grades when asked. In return, membership in (sports) clubs can bring advantages.

CV in English
Those who apply internationally usually need an English resume. Note whether a “curriculum vitae” (Great Britain) or a “resume” (USA) is required. There are differences! In the CV and resume, there is no application photo, nor information on age, gender, origin, religion or family. The date and signature are still missing from the CV. The references are more important for the resume. You can find out more about the English resume HERE .

Europass CV
The Europass is used for applications in the EU. The "Europass" is intended to make the qualifications and competencies of candidates more comparable and is recognized by all EU countries, the EFTA / EEA countries and the accession countries. We have summarized in THIS detailed dossier which special features you have to pay attention to .

CV on XING or LinkedIn
You can also create a kind of resume on the career networks Xing or LinkedIn (linkedin profile writing services will halp you). In some cases, you will find a resume template to fill out in a resume editor.

This has advantages above all with the one-click application : Some companies, job exchanges or meta search engines allow you to apply for a vacancy with just one click by linking your Xing profile or linked profile.

Attention: Before you apply in this way, be sure to check your profile, career information, references, contact and "About me" pages. HR managers get access to it and read it too! You should therefore update your resume data regularly. Contradictions and information without reference to the advertised position result in points being deducted.
